Lerici, Restoring Continuity to the Seafront Promenade

In Lerici, Corbo Group Tells the Story of an Urban Regeneration Project Reconnecting the Sea with the Town

In Lerici, the sea is a gateway: you gaze at it from Piazza Garibaldi, rediscover it just a few turns away in Piazzetta Tarabotto, and follow it along Lungomare Vassallo towards Shelley and San Terenzo. But for years, that connection was interrupted by changes in elevation, worn-out paving and barriers that disrupted the flow of one of the most beloved promenades in the Gulf of Poets.

With Corbo Group, the town set out to restore that connection. Reconnecting means restoring continuity, but also showing respect: for the landscape, for the historic trees, and for those who live in and walk through the village every day.

The redevelopment of Lerici's seafront promenade aims to restore continuity to the waterfront, creating a safer, more accessible and welcoming public space for residents and visitors. The project combines landscape enhancement, urban accessibility and respect for the town's architectural heritage, preserving the distinctive character of this historic Ligurian coastal destination.

The works focus on improving pedestrian routes and upgrading existing surfaces, ensuring greater continuity and accessibility along the promenade. Particular attention is given to removing architectural barriers while retaining the area's established layout and historic features. The intervention seeks to enhance the everyday experience of the waterfront, strengthening its role as a place for walking, social interaction and community life.

Preserving the identity of Lerici's seafront is a central consideration throughout the redevelopment. The project respects the existing landscape design, including historic boundary walls, planted areas and the mature pine trees that characterise the promenade. Technical and architectural solutions have been developed to safeguard tree roots, improve surface stability and support the long-term health of the existing vegetation.

Accessibility, Safety and Environmental Responsibility

The redevelopment addresses accessibility and pedestrian safety through carefully coordinated improvements to ground levels, paving and circulation routes. These measures are designed to create a more inclusive public environment while respecting the sensitive relationship between the built landscape and its natural features. The approach reflects the importance of delivering lasting improvements without compromising the historic and environmental qualities of the site.

Light, Safety and Efficiency

Beneath the surface, new cable ducts organise and accommodate utility infrastructure; above ground, LED lighting creates a discreet and elegant profile, complying with safety and light pollution regulations. Greater comfort, less energy waste: a town that saves energy while enhancing its public spaces after dark.

Respecting the Trees

The pine trees along the seafront are an integral part of Lerici's landscape and collective memory. We have protected them through dedicated solutions, including air chambers and selective adjustments to walkway levels, designed to safeguard their roots and ensure long-term stability.

What Really Changes

Walking along the promenade today means moving forward with confidence: a continuous, recognisable route with clearly defined pathways, efficient lighting and well-organised resting areas. It is an invitation to enjoy public space and experience the rhythm of the town at a human pace.
