Construction is progressing on La Spezia's new municipal swimming pool, located next to the Mariotti Sports Arena. Work began in spring 2024 and is proceeding according to the schedule agreed with the City Council. The project marks an important step in the redevelopment of the Bragarina Sports Complex.
The project is part of the NRRP's “Sport and Social Inclusion” programme, with a total investment of approximately €2.8 million, including more than €2.4 million in NRRP funding. The aim is to deliver a state-of-the-art facility serving the city, local sports clubs and the wider community.
The new pool, designed to meet the standards set by the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) and the Italian Swimming Federation (FIN), will accommodate swimming, lifesaving and water polo activities. Its technical specifications and equipment will support both competitive sports and training programmes, while ensuring full accessibility for people with disabilities.
Supporting Facilities and Functionality
A dedicated building is being constructed alongside the pool to accommodate changing rooms, amenities and technical facilities. The layout prioritises functionality, comfort and clear circulation routes for athletes and visitors, ensuring seamless integration with the other sports facilities within the complex.

Sustainability and Innovation
The project incorporates energy-efficient solutions, including water treatment and recirculation systems, photovoltaic and solar thermal panels, environmentally responsible materials and earthquake-resistant structures. This integrated approach brings together sporting excellence, safety and environmental responsibility.
