Former Fitram Depot
In La Spezia, Corbo Group has transformed a former industrial depot into a vibrant hub for culture and community life. Now integrated with the “Pietro Mario Beghi” Civic Library, the former Fitram depot offers new spaces for learning, collaboration and social interaction. This urban regeneration project has breathed new life into a historic building, expanding its cultural role and reconnecting it with the city.
Corbo Group has completed the restoration and adaptive reuse of the former Fitram depot on behalf of the Municipality of La Spezia, integrating the building with the existing “Pietro Mario Beghi” Civic Library. The project forms part of the urban regeneration programme funded by Italy's National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP), under Mission 5, Component 2, Investment 2.1, and completes the development of a cultural hub first established in 2017.
The redeveloped complex features a new reading and study area of approximately 320 m², complementing the existing library, alongside a large multifunctional space of over 1,000 m² designed to accommodate events, workshops and coworking activities. The project also includes a 200 m² café and refreshment area, accessible independently from outside the building, as well as outdoor spaces designed to host community activities and public events.
The functional connection between the former depot and the existing library ensures a seamless and coherent experience for visitors. The redevelopment strikes a careful balance between preserving the building's industrial heritage and introducing new functions, making the most of its existing architectural features while creating bright, accessible and welcoming spaces.
The Restoration and Redevelopment Works
The works included a complete replacement of the roof, structural strengthening of the masonry and upgrades to the building's technical systems. The surrounding outdoor areas were also adapted to accommodate open-air activities, creating a stronger connection between the building and the surrounding neighbourhood.

Culture and Community
The former Fitram depot has been transformed into a vibrant cultural facility, welcoming residents, students and professionals alike. It provides a new cultural and social landmark for the eastern part of La Spezia, bringing opportunities for learning, collaboration and community engagement together under one roof.
